My husband and I enjoy volunteering at St. Vincent’s Children’s Home. We’ve learned about the Home’s history, and have met some of the children and heard their stories. It is inspiring to meet some of the other volunteers who themselves were children growing up at St Vincent’s, and have now come back with their families to volunteer. My husband and I use the opportunity to be together and give back to our community. We’ve helped with gardening projects, cleaning up the playground area, worked the concession stands during basketball tournaments, and have been judges during trivia nights. For one project, we played games, Wii, ping pong, and cards with the kids. It was a blast! It’s priceless to see the children smile & laugh! Being a volunteer at St. Vincent’s is a very rewarding experience.

Volunteering was something I had always wanted to do, but truly didn’t have the time as a single parent raising two kids. Fortunately, I have been blessed to work for a wonderful company that formed a team many years ago to reach out and touch the lives of others in the community. How great is it to work for a company that allows its associates to volunteer during working hours! After joining this team, one of the partnerships that had developed was with St. Vincent Home for Children. Their holiday gala wasn’t far off, and I was fortunate to be invited. The powerful testimony of several individuals who not only grew up in the home, but became successful businessmen, was so profound to me, that it compelled me to select St. Vincent’s as my charity of choice. Years later, not only have I developed a personal relationship with St. Vincent’s, but I also volunteer with others on our team with their charities of choice.

The reasons why I choose to volunteer at St. Vincent’s Home for Children is it holds a special place in my heart. I lived at the children’s home when I was a little girl. It is very important to me to give back to the place that I called home, where I have many happy memories. The home has been part of the St. Louis area helping the needs of children for so many years and I volunteer to help the mission of this wonderful organization because I would like to make sure it continues helping the children for many more years to come.
